Water is Life
Replacing the town’s aging water and sewer lines are a top priority. Many of the lines are over 50 years old. During this April and May, a new water line is being run along Futrell Alley from Second Avenue to Ward Avenue and across Main Street from Third Avenue to a fire hydrant. When finished this new line will provide better water pressure and will open a dead-end line for better flow and water quality. A new water line will also be laid under Main Street and when that is completed, we plan to begin the town's road paving project.
Concrete Results- We Nailed It!
Several periods of torrential rains had caused major erosion of the embankment on Third Avenue near Braden Church and the Carthage Cemetery just beyond Water Street. The cost to erect a retaining wall was exorbitant. After searching for a lesser expensive solution, a process called “soil nailing” was discovered. This was a much better match for the situation and certainly more cost effective, saving the city $100,000.
Walking Track & Dog Park
The Carthage Walking Track and Dog Park officially opened during the fall of 2021. Located at 406 Industrial Drive, it offers an E-Z grade 3/10 mile paved walking surface and designated fenced-in areas for both small dog and large dog breeds. Surrounding the walking track are ample grassy areas where kids can run & play, and comfortable park benches for anyone that would like to take a break and enjoy the outdoors. It is a lovely setting for both exercise and leisure!
